I'm awaiting delivery of a 204, and reading up on the PC/MIDI connections. Can someone clarify this for me...
Say I download a midi file from the Web. I can see how its laid out on my PC with Midinotate... tho, of course, the sound is worthless.
I gather I can copy the file to a floppy and put it into the 204, but why not use a direct connection?
If I use the USB-Midi cable mentioned in posts here, can I play that file on my laptop and let it drive the Clavinova?
Nothing I've found in the various help files have answered this question. Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I'd better be careful here because I've only been using a midi interface with my clavinova for a few days, but I am able to play midi files I've seen on the web back through my CVP 105 clavinova without any problems. I don't have to put them onto a floppy disc to do this. In fact, the whole experience has been quite exhilarating, you can play along with the music too!
Hope we are talking about the same thing. Good luck:)

How did you connect your computer to the Clavinova? "To Host" or USB? And what program did you use on your computer to play the Clavinova? Thanks - rh

Hi
I have just bought a Edirol USB to Midi convertor to connect my laptop to my CVP. I plug the convertor into the USB port on the laptop and then connect the convertor to the CVP via the Midi lead.
When I use my main PC I use the Midi Out port and that goes straight the the CVP, Midi In.
As far as I know, you can not play the CVP via USB, it is only there to send files back and forth to the CVP from the PC.
The software I use is called Yamplayer. This is a Eseq / Midi file player that allows me to create playlists and this then controls the CVP. An Eseq file is a Yamaha file used for their Diskclavier pianos.
I have all of my Pianosoft and Midi files stored on CDrom and the HDD of the laptop. So I do not have to use the floppy drive anymore.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
I also bought an Eridol USB midi interface. Mine is a UM-1SX 1-IN/1 OUT. I bought two midi leads to go with it and connected them to the in and out sockets on the little interface and then connected the out lead to the 'midi in' socket and the in lead to the 'midi out' socket on the back of my clavinova. (It may be in a different place on yours) There is another lead with a USB connector coming out of the front of the interface which you plug in to a USB socket on your computer. I installed the driver for the midi interface using a CD ROM disc.
All I have done so far is go to a website linked on this forum and play some of the music I found there. It played back through my clavinova. I also have some clavinova midi songs in a disc-(280 easy listening piano standards) which I saved into my computer and which I can play back from 'My Music' in Windows XP either all or a selection. I think I can also put these onto a floppy disk and play them through the disk drive of my CVP 105 clavinova. I haven't tried that yet.
That's as far as I go with this subject at the moment. I think you could use the Yamplayer but I couldn't, as my clavinova is not in the 200 series.
I hope this is useful information, best of luck with your new clavinova!

Hi sjwn5
You can use Yamplayer with any CVP Diskclavier or any midi device you like.

Hi again Midi-Magic,
Yes you are quite right re The Yamplayer. I was confusing Yamplayer with something else called 'Musicfinderview' 1.5.9 which says:
'This program displays data records from music finder files. Tyros, PSR1000/2000/1100/2100 and CVP203/204/205/206/207/208/209/210 mfd files are supported with full translation of style numbers to style names. The listing can be edited, rearranged, sorted, printed, saved as a new music finder file, or saved as a tab delimited text file for use with spreadsheet, word processing or database programs. An import function allows adding a text delimited file to an open mfd database'
I am not really sure what this does but it seems quite useful and I was a bit disappointed to see that the CVP 105 was not included in the above list.

Hi
That is because the 105 does not have a MusicFinder function.
