View Full Version : Using Lights for left hand chords

I'm a novice player with a CVP-209 (kind of like a blimp pilot trying to fly a 747). I've used the lights successfully to learn to play melody with my right hand. Now I'd like to use the lights to play chords in my left hand (eg. Scott Houston PBS "Play Piano in a Flash" method).

I don't want to play the left hand score, I don't really want to "one finger" the cords, I'd just like to have the lights help me learn the chord parts like I did the melody.

I'd appreciate someone walking me through what I need to do.

Thanks.

Curtis,

Let me suggest you try the following:

1 - Turn on your CVP209 or select the piano only button (it helps to start as simply as possible)

2 - Select a favorite song or let me suggest Beauty and the Beast for the Song library.

3 - Important to have the lights show you the chords - Select the accomanyment button. Important un-select the OTS button otherwise the sounds will change automatically from the piano you started with.

4 - Exit to the main screen and select Score - to follow the bouncing ball through the music.

5 - Select the guide button.

6 - Press the song start button.

You should see an "F" chord indicated on the keyboard. Play it. The introduction will continue until the next chord in the music which is the chord "F". The lights will display the correct notes to play in the left hand. Continue as indicated....

Good luck,

John

Thanks for your detailed instructions.

I did have a little problem at first. The split point in the keyboard must have been too low. But I played around (then reset) and the lights do recognize the chords when I did exactly as you described.

I wish there was a way to adjust the split point such that C, F and G chords could all be shown using the lights without "inversions".

But this is a great start. Thanks.

Curtis,

To adjust the split point.

1 - Hold down Direct Access button (Lower left off the screen)

2 - Press Accompanyment button. This will take you directly to the "Style setting, Split point, Chord screen".

3 - Use "Back - Next" buttons to select Split point tab on screen.

4 - Select "Main A+L" button and use the dial relocate the split point.

5 - Press the exit button.

Good luck,

John
