I recently ran across some .MDA files on my hard disk that were from a CVP-70 or CVP-50 that my parents used to own. I want to be able to get these into midi format so I can "relive" my past glory. Any way to do that other than buying the gibler utility?
Can someone do it for me?

Hi
The trouble with converting the MDA to MIDI or even ESEQ is the mapping of the voices. This is made even worse if you have used the drums. In the past I have owned a CVP 50, CVP 75, CVP95, CVP107 and now a CVP209.
If they are just piano you could try and rename the files to .fil and run then through ESEQ2MID and see what you get.
I have a program that will convert DOC to MIDI but the old CVPs did not record in DOC they used there own voices.
Of course it can be done, it will depend how much time you have to re-map all of the sounds.
Good Luck

Hi
If they are .MDA files then they are ESEQ files and NOT MIDI files. You can not rename .MDA to MID. Thses will HAVE to be converted from ESEQ to MID.

Hi
Have either of you had any luck yet?
I may be able to help with the MDA to MIDI soon.
"how about going from midi to play on a CVP 75?"
Not sure what you mean here. As far as I know the CVP75 should play midi files. If not then Dkutils will convert mid2eseq, which should play.

How many do you have? My 209 will convert an mda (at least one from my old CVP-83s) to midi, but the results aren't always spectacular. So if you can post them someplace, I'd give it a shot.

Hi All
In the old days, the CVP saved all of its files as .mda AND it saved them using the cvp's OWN voices. These of course are not compactable with midi. Now the new cvps should play them as they are Eseq files BUT the voices will be all wrong.
You could, just put them in a newer cvp and save them back out as midi but the sounds and drums will be wrong.
At this very moment there is a program being written that will hopefuly play and convert mda to midi. I can't say any more just yet, but so far, it will play Eseq (.fil) files from the PC. It will either play the PC's sound card or via midi, play the CVP / Piano / Keyboard.

I have used the Giebler program for a long time. Along with converting .mda to smf, it also goes smf to .mda plus it has both a drum note conversion map and voice conversion map. You will need to create the maps based on your CVP but it's well worth the effort. I once used the program to convert a CVP65 file to a PSR42 drum and voice map (played the file in the old DRC20).
