I would like to get an opinion of what would be a good choice for a Yamaha digital piano in a medium size church setting. It would probably not need an ear-splitting sound system, since it will be connected to the sound system and speakers in the sanctuary. And it probably would not need all the rhythm sounds - maybe a few. It seems like a CVP would be overkill - a CLP would probably do the job. Anybody out there have a CVP or CLP in their church? Which model and how is it working out? Thanks.

My church uses a CVP-98. It's a huge church with about 800 people attending each service.

They have an excellent church organ, so they use the 98 for special effects, like violin voices to accompany a vocal soloist. It plugs directly into the sound system so its speakers only benefit the artist playing it.

In a medium-sized congregation I would suppose a Clavinova could really get a workout. All of them have a lot of flexibilty.

We use a CLP-150 in our church (where I am the organist). It has a 60W per channel sound system which is quite adequate for our sanctuary which seats about 250 on upholstered chairs with a carpeted floor.

We have a large Rodgers digital organ which allows me to run the piano through the organ speakers if I wish (a couple of 1/4 inch plug guitar-style cables).

The style of music used in your church may help determine whether a CVP model would be more appropriate. The auto-accompaniment features of the CVP would probably work better with contemporary styles or in a "praise band" setting.

Our church tends to stick to more traditional music - as a matter of fact I find myself using the harpsichord and guitar voices quite often. I have used the XG and drum voices a couple of times for a kids musical where the score called for particular instruments.

By the way, get the Clavimover dolly - it's worth the extra bucks.

Hope this helps.

The "clavimover dolly"?

Please tell me about it. The Clavinova I'm looking at weighs hundreds!

Here is a copy of a footnote from one of Yamaha's sites:

" ClaviMOVERŪ

It's a low metal frame with casters at each corner and the clavinova sits on it and can be rolled around easily, even on carpet. Ours cost $299.00. It was delivered and installed by the dealer when we bought the CLP-150.
