I have been collecting hundreds of midi files to play on my CVP 207 and to play along with. Some composers have done a good job of organizing the channels into bass and treble clefs with chording and melody line, but most are poorly done with a mish mash of the left and right hands, no chords and sometimes no
key signiture. I would like to clean up the display and add chording. Can anyone recommend some inexpensive PC software that would make this job relatively easy. Simplicity is what I cam looking for, I don't need a lot of bells and whistles. I also would like the ability to print out a score. Thanks

Ohhh, rotsa ruck.
No matter what software you buy, you'll find this task to be very tedious. CakeWalk Home Studeo is a standard that many people use. I don't know whether there's another program out there that would be any easier to do what you want to do. It won't be easy.

A program called MidiNotate will do these things pretty efficiently (although it'll still be a hassle with that many files.) Try:

You can download a trial copy free. If you like it, price is $35.00

Thanks Jim for the info on Midinotate. I downloaded the free trial and downloaded a scrambled midi file. In 15 minutes I was able to separate the bass and treble clefs add chords and print out a readable, playable score. This included the time needed to learn how to use the product. It automatically separates the left and right hands and where it makes a mistake, it is easy to click on a note and move it to the other clef. Perfect for what I want to do!

One of the things I like about this program is that it doesn't "over-notate." Many notation programs produce scores that are loaded with 1/32 rests, triplets where there shouldn't be any, etc. MidiNotate produces very playable scores without much need for tweaking.
The author is working on a sequencer that will incorporate MidiNotate but add a lot more control over the midi stream.
