When I bought my CVP209 I didn't think anyone could turn as pale as my husband when the guy said the price. Now I can see that funny colour reappearing as I cast my eye over the CVP307. Does anyone think that the difference in these two instruments is worth changing over for. The only thing I think is the Mega Voices, I don't suppose there is a way to download these different voices is there? or even pay to have them on the 209. Does anyone have a copy of the Music Data Base from the 307, I would like to see what sort of songs they have included this time. The Song "Wishing and Hoping" suddenly springs to mind !!!!;) Happy playing everyone. Marion

Marion, You have a wonderful instrument in the 209. From what I understand, there are only a couple of mega voices on the new CVPs, so I haven't seen anything yet that would make me want to upgrade from my 209. You might want to wait and see what Yamaha comes up with in a couple more years and then make the jump.

Just my two cents:
there is an amazing difference between the 209 (which was replaced by the 210) and the 307/309. Check out the specs at http://www.music.yamaha.com, just the new samples (piano included) and the Internet Direct Connection are worth the jump, let alone all of the other features...

by the way, the closing lid has two pieces, thus if it needs to be repaired, it is very simple and does not require the need to replace the entire cover...

go for it! (of course, I am bias)

Countjs, the web site address you provided doesn't work. Is it correct?

Marion,

Are you asking about the Music Finder Database or the Preset Song Collection?

If it's MFD info and more styles you fancy, then that's no problem adding to the 209. And surely you're not thinking of upgrading the entire piano just to get a few more cheesey demo songs? They're OK if you don't want to fumble with floppies or connect a PC, but you can do much better with complete and fully arranged sequences. Like here's one that Dusty might actually approve of:

Hi

When I heard about the new CVP3xx is was straight round to my music store to have a look.
Oh Boy was I disapointed.

New sounds ok but there have taken away all of the Dooo Doa vocal sounds.
The cvp will not read Pianosoft / Eseq files stored on the smart media cards. (mind you, you can always convert them to midi)
307 only has 1 USB slot so if the floppy disk drive is pluged in then there is 0.
The lid is a major fault, just waiting to happen.
I think the internet will only connect to Yamaha's site.

No hard drive. Why not?
Why use Smart Media and not SD? SD has more memory and is more robust.

NO sorry not for me.
I will continue to use the PC / Laptop to play the CVP via midi.

Just my two pennies worth.

All:

Is it true that the Internet connection on the CVP307 will only connect to the Yamaha site? In other words you cannot surf and download midi files directly?

Best regards,

Bob.

Thanks for all the advice, I think I will just bide my time and see what comes up later from Yamaha. I agree that the CVP209 is an excellent keyboard and I wouldn't want to loose anything from changing over. It was the Music Finder I was interested in, I keep them all in the user memory and change them around, I was just wondering if they had come up with any different titles or are they the same as the 209. Marion. :)

Hi

From what I have seen, there are a few new songs in the MFD. However, so far, I have not seen a copy of a non-copyrighted MFD. You could always go into your local store and copy the MFD to a floppy !!!!!!!! But you will end up with song like "1+1 for tea" and things like "water is troubled"

As soon as I get hold of a copy of the proper titled version, I'll let you know.

Hi singer112001,
the IDC only connects to Yamaha's portal. Reason is, a special site had to be created to fit within the screen of your Clavinova. Imagine trying to navigate through a general site without a mouse, keyboard, and the small screen. Everything on the Yamaha site aligns with the various buttons on the Clavinova. Unless a firm built a special site that only CVP users can visit, there is no way any normal website would 'work' on the IDC format... IDC is not intended to replace a PC, it's merely a very cool feature that no other keyboard has.

thanks!
