Hi,
a quick question. If you were in control of the content that can download into the CVP300's via IDC, what would you produce? Please elaborate. Keep in mind that samples cannot be downloaded, but all types of 'data' can...
thanks!

I'm not sure what you're asking, but I'd like to have the CVP-300 connect to midi search engines like musicrobot.com. I may be mistaken, but I believe the IDC only connects to Yamaha's commercial midi library.

Hi,
at this time, the IDC is an important part of a YAMAHA product, those - all sites will be Yamaha sanctioned. As we all know, free MIDI's don't sound too good... Basically, if you had IDC, would you:
> download MIDI files for a fee if they were sound-a-likes to the actual songs - with, XF (lyrics, chords) so you can perform them live, or Karaoke...
> download Follow The Lights - example, the new StarLights series
> stream educational material
> or, perhaps download new styles...?
> anything else you may dream-up....
thanks!

Without a doubt I would like to see the possibility to download more preset voices over IDC. In fact, it is what I thought (or at least hoped) it would do.
As it stands now it only duplicates what other sites do, and it does it poorly.
I totally disagree with the statement that downloaded MIDI files don't sound good. I have many that I have downloaded from midibuddy.net that are just excellent. (Especially after converting the voices to Mega!). However the ones on the Yamaha site are truly awful in comparison. As mentioned in my other post I have abandoned IDC in disgust.

dbjorck, CountJS said "free midis" don't sound good, not "downloaded midis". Midibuddy has outstanding midis for very reasonable prices, but they're not free.
Nevertheless, I have found some outstanding free midis, too. It takes some searching, and I've learned a few things that have helped me ferret out some really good midi files. I probably have over a thousand midi files in my library that I found for free and I'd say they cover the entire spectrum from really bad to outstanding.

Hi Danny,
I am sorry how you feel about the XG MIDI files on Yamaha's IDC site. I find them amazing, and I use them often in live performance with my Tyros. The producers spent months trying to re-create the nuances of the actual song. (They are meant to be played on XG keyboards in order to sound best) Tons of content will be coming in the next couple of months. Please keep in mind that the IDC service only exists on a Yamaha product, and it is open-architecture, thus allowing the platform to be tweaked to optimal performance – so, of course, it is only going to point to Yamaha sites (at this time.) I would imagine that since it is in it’s infancy stage, not everything is going to be perfect.
However, I did not plan to start a flame towards IDC, just merely asking what you, as a consumer, would enjoy downloading... Perhaps you can write me PM regarding your exact 'disgust' feelings... Without a formal introduction, I have a lot of influence over what happens with IDC…
Again, to all, thanks for your input and allowing me to use this forum to help you.

I agree with Danny up to a point. I have purchased several XF files from the site (I needed XF files for the kids and they were the only XF files I could find). However, I found them slightly disappointing. I thought they lacked something from a musical point of view (perhaps spontaneity ?) The price was good however.

most all of the new files will either be:
1. XF
2. Styles (using Mega voices)
3. Educational streaming
just a little hint for the future...
But, really - besides flaming, is there anyone else out there that have any wish lists regarding download possibilities...
thanks,
JS

Educational streaming is probably the biggest opportunity Yamaha has to make a big bang with the IDC. Many people who buy CVPs buy them on the promise that it's easy to learn to play. But, when they get home with their new instrument, they have very little assistance and so they don't make the progress they had hoped for.
If Yamaha could provide a complete start-to-finish syllibus of tutorials and learning modules directly to the CVP that can take a student from beginner to intermediate, teaching the student how to learn using the guide controls, then the IDC will REALLY be something. Otherwise, the IDC seems to be little more than a small convenience.
I've not seen the IDC first hand, so maybe I'm just terribly ignorant on this.

Hi,
Could anyone please tell me that have access to the IDC if there are any new styles available for purchase.
Then the next question. : What about the poor Tyros owners like me.
How do we get access to puchase stuff from the IDC ? We know that the new CVP's / Tyros / PSR3000 all use the same voices and style technology.
Thanks for any info
Ferdi !

Having a 208 I am also not famaliar with IDC.
Opening my thoughts to what I would like my CVP, (or an upgrade to a 3xx) to be able to do over the internet:
1. Connect to a web site that would allow a friend to remotley play on my CVP and me on theirs. And allow us to play tohether.
2. Allow me to upload songs to a web site and allow athers to have controlled access.
3. Definitley have the ability to download updates to ALL the upgradable software and firmware.
...thanks...

Idea #1. Brilliant! On-line instruction/review/encouragement/just plain playing along.
Patent this idea.

This thread has me confused.
What is IDC...?
Does it only apply to the later 3xx series of CVP's...?
I would be interested in tutorials that show how to use the CVP to advantage. Too bad that Yamaha could not include them with the instrument at the time of purchase.

Hi all,
if you have a 200 series, IDC will not work for you, at this time. IDC stands for Internet Direct Connect which is a feature built into the new PSR and CVP models... and future Yamaha products as well.
From my sources: Styles will be available soon, as they are extremely expensive to produce. Hit content will be flowed into the system rather quickly, perhaps 5-10 songs per month. PianoSoft and Follow The Lights type of product. Educational aspects like piano lessons will happen, but 'How to use my Clavinova' tutorials are basically up to the user. I find no difficulty reading the manuals, so I am not sure what more anyone needs. There is a DVD available for the 300 series that get's into advanced IDC and other functions - ask your dealer for a copy.
Thanks for all of your input. As this is a new and evolving feature, I am sure many of your comments will be incorporated into the future...
Your mysterious friend,
Count.

Hi!
I have not been told by my dealer about a DVD explaining the more advanced features, nor have I seen anything about that on the Yamaha sites. It is always a good idea to proactively tell customers about what is available. This DVD perhaps could have helped me.

Hi,
I am sorry - the DVDs were created for US Dealers from the US marketing team. Each country markets the Clavinova product differently. FYI.
