Hi

My 208 won't accept any disk anymore
When I enter a disk it states "Disk error"
After I format a new disk its the same story.
I gues my drive is broken !!
Anyone else had this problem??
I'm gonna call my dealer this week, my 208 is 1 year old and I got 2 years Warranty on It, so no problemmo.
I was wandering, is the 3 1/2 inch drive the same as in a pc ??
Can it be replaced with an ide drive ??
Its the fist time somthing goes wrong with my baby, I hope its not gonna be somthing every year becours I was planning to keep my 208 until the cvp410 is on the market :-)

Bye

If you recall, the disk drive on a PC doesn't automatically recognize when you put a disk into the drive. The drive in the CVP does. It works more like the drive in a Macintosh. Perhaps a Mac drive could work? I dunno.

An inexpensive drive cleaning kit from Radio Shack or a computer shop might solve this problem.

Although I haven't actually removed the floppy drive to verify this, my guess is that the drive is a plain vanilla PC drive that can be bought for between 15 and 20 dollars. Assuming that the drive is functioning properly, disk recognition is more of a function of the drive controller and the operating system rather than the drive itself.

Hi Phil

Here how its going thill now.
I called the shop where I bought the 208 in october 2003
They would arrange "yamaha on site repair" call me.
Indeed 3.5 minutes later yamaha called me and they made an oppointmen to repair it at my home this week.
So in Belgium you could say the service is exelent:)

Your probably right abouth the drive, Kickstarting disks is a software thing.
Cleaning will probably not help, It broke down very suddenly, if it was durty it would work partialy.

Kind regards

:p :p Repairs all done:p :p

The repairman came an diagnosed a damaged diskdrive.
apparantly he forgot to bring one
Then he went out and bought a new one at the local computer store!!,
Black computers seem to be fasioned these days and they had a black 3.1/2" drive in stock.
He installed the drive in the 208 and it works fine.
Its very easy to do and if you can replace one in a computer there schould be no trouble doing so in a cvp.
The man payed 15$ in the store for the drive, he told me that yamaha charges him 45$ for a new drive.

My conclusion is that yamaha waranty service in Belgium is very good.

All my floppydisks (5) are destoyed, the damaged drive made rings in the disks and when I push the protection lit aside I can look tru them in the middle of the disk.

So, would that be a half-height drive? I think I'll pick one up and try it on my CVP-96.

No Wally

Nothing special, a standard drive that fits a 3 1/2" bay
Like the one in a desktop pc.
I gues you mean by "half-height drive" one that fits laptops?

That's about the only size you will find these days.
Mitsumi, Teac, or Sony are all good ones. Many come with interchangeable bezels, just make sure a black one is included.
NewEgg.com has a black Sony for $11.49 with shipping.
