I've just taken delivery of my CVP 303 - it's amazing.

On the CD that was included are 50 midi files of the songs in the Yamaha "50 Greats for the Piano" sheetmusic book (also included). Although I have correctly installed the Yamaha USB Midi drivers on my Windows XP machine, together with the other software on the CD, I can't seem to be able to download those 50 songs directly to the CVP.

It seems to me that the only way to do it would be to copy the songs to the SmartMedia card with a separate device, which would seem to make a nonsense of the USB connection.

What am I missing?

Not sure about the 300 series, but on my 208, after install the usb driver, I still have to install the file utility from the CD before I was able to access the storage on the 208.

See if there is a setup program for the file utility.

Hope this helps

Ben

Hi
Your CD-Rom that came with the 300 should have the music downloader software - use that, and all should be well...

Thanks for the replies,

On the setup utility on the CD there is a button marked "MusicSoft Downloader", which did not actually install the software but opened the browser and took me to:- http://music.yamaha.com/productGroupInfoDownloads.html.

The problem was that this link was broken, so I contacted Yamaha and they gave me another link:- http://music.yamaha.com/productViewAllDownloads.html, which enabled me to download the latest version (5.0) of Musicsoft Downloader.

Everything works now to be able to upload and download midi files from the PC via the USB to host interface. It's strange that the manual doesn't mention this method of file transfer, but recomends instead to manually transfer songs using an external USB storage device using the USB to device interface - with all the problems of copy protection etc.

It seems that Yamaha prefer Clavinova users to use IDC instead, which of course is is more profitable and the copyright issues are easier to control.

Thanks again - Martyn
