hi
How about making a cvpug song
We would need min 6 vulunteers to do so.
Its works like this:
The first one lays down the basics: key, tempo, beat and the chords for the song
The second person the chords for the refrain
The someone plays a piano part using this chords and posts it as a midi file.
the next person uploads the midifile adds a melody (saxofone) and then repost the midifile with the melody added.
the next person adds a basline and repost it.
the next one the drums
and so on
Please post your ideas on how to pull this off and state your intrest in what part you would like to contribute in this (the drums for example).
Kind regards
Eric

I think this is a great idea, the first CVPUG cyberjam! I'm up to my ears in other projects right now, but could maybe help out with drums or something when you get to that point. But I do this stuff all the time - I'd rather see some of you other folks try your hand at it. Collaboration is really fun, and a terrific way for you to explore your CVP's capabilities.
The process you described should work fine, since it's just a midi that is being passed around. Much easier to do it that way than to try to combine separate files. Also, perhaps someone should be designated as the producer, to do the final mix in the end.
The only problem I can foresee is running out of polyphony if the tracks are elaborate.
One of the most interesting aspects of collaboration that I have discovered is how differently people perceive the same piece of music. Here is an example - a guitarist I know wrote a song, but posted only the guitar melody track. No rhythm, drums, etc. - just the guitar. The challenge was for everyone to come up with a different backing track for the song. The differences were mind-blowing to me. The most clever take, I thought, was this one:

Here's my take (the backing was all done on my CVP-209:

And the original guitarist's complete track, as he originally envisioned it (this wasn't revealed until everybody was done):

Have fun, all, and I'll look forward to seeing how this progresses.

Hi!
I'm tempted to volunteer (for piano perhaps), but I too feel I perhaps have a bit too much on my plate right now. After all Christmas is coming up as well.
ClavinovaGuy; I thought your take was vastly better than the original vision!

OK
Great then we have a pianist and a drummer already.
We could do this after the holydays, there is no rush.
Danny tell me what you thing of the following basics:
4/4 tempo +-100 : 1C 1Am 1F 1/2Dm 1/2G x2
and for the refrain somthing with Bb, F, Am, Gsus4, G
I can make up 50 of those in 5 minutes so don't hesitate to tell me if its not there yet.
To all the readers, dont be shy please, to make a cvpug song we need more of you.
Kind regards
Eric
