View Full Version : Should I upgrade from a 201 to a 305-307?

I am a current cvp 201 owner and have a question about setting up a LCD on my piano to assist in practice. I have learned how I can set up musical loops and practice single-handedly while the other hand and background play automatically. My model does not have the video out so I cannot attach a monitor directly to it. I want this capability.

Option 1
To upgrade to a model that does have this output and will display it in white background and black notes is going to cost me me 7K. I was lucky enough to find a dealer that would give me 3K for mine in exchange for a 208 or 305 model. Net difference is 4K.

Option 2
I found a program called midi-notate that will transform any midi file into a two piece piano score. By hooking up my PC to the 201 through midi interface I can control the midi-notate software and have some of the same practice features as on the 208 or 305. I could purchase a cheap dell with LCD monitor for around 500.00.

Both would seem to give me the ability to have the LCD monitor with learning tools capability. Is there fault in my logic? I know of course that to buy the newer piano is going to give me lots of bells and whistles but 3500.00 is a lot of money.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.
