I am a little confused about the internet connection for the 305.

Can I just connect a straight through network cable to the back of the 305 and plug it into my router that is connected to my broadband connection?

That's the idea. You don't connect the CVP to a PC, just directly to your broadband connection. Thru a router is OK.

I believe that you will also need a USB to Ethernet adapter to adapt from your network cable to the USB input on the CVP-305.

I just got my CVP307 connected to the internet last night and wanted to let others know my process, since I couldn't find a straight-forward procedure written anywhere.

I have a NETGEAR Super G wireless router already set up with my home PC computer and PC laptop (wireless).

I purchased the DLink DWL-122 USB wireless adaptor, which is one of those on Yamaha's approved list from their website. This is a USB 1.1 running at only 11 Mbps, but it works fine for the CVP 307. It cost about $35 after $10 rebate at Best Buy. Heck, a direct USB to Eithernet cable cost that much.

Anyway, the DLink DWL-122 comes with a CD and instructions on initializing it with a PC. I wasn't sure what to do with the CD and intialization process. The answer is to DO NOTHING WITH THE INCLUDED CD.

I simply plugged the unit into the USB port of the CVP and hit the "Internet button" on the CVP. I got the 'Not Connected" notice which said to check the CVP internet settings. Thank you.

I first went to my home computer and called up the Netgear router settings. Here's what I finally figured out that I had to do:

On the NETGEAR router:
- Make sure it's set to recognize "G and B" devices or just "B" devices. This refers to the speed. The DLink DWL-122 is a "B" device because it's 802.11b ...much slower than the "Super G" 802.11g of my notebook computer.
- Look at and write down the SSID (?) and Channel number of the Router. (The reason for the question mark, is because I forgot the actual abbreviation. I'll look it up when I get home and correct if necessary.)

On the CVP:
- Go into the internet setting menu and input the SSID (?) which, in my case was "NETGEAR"
- Change the channel to the same channel as the router , in my case it was Channel 11.

With these simple changes, the connection to Yamaha's IDC website was MADE.

I was able to scroll thru any of their song listings and hear a 30 second sample of each (plays automatically) thru my CVP307. "Eruption" by Van Halen was right on, compared to the poor versions I've found on the internet.

Anyway, only if you chose to "Purchase Song" does it then stop and tell you to go to your PC and set up an account with them, then return.

Hope this makes getting on line a little easier for others.
I've only had my CVP307 for a week, but it's fun to learn from this "Ultimate Music Machine".
