I'm completely new to CVP. Last week I bought a 207 and just exploring it. I connected it with my PC through Midi. As I have downloaded a lot of styles (and midi files), can somebody tell me if there is a way to see & play the styles in my Hard Disk using the CVP, instead of copying them on flopies and transferring them to my Clavinova ?

For downloaded styles, you will need to transfer these to floppy disk and either play them from the floppy or save them to the 'user' space on the CVP.

For MIDI files you have a greater range of choices. With a basic PC setup, Windows Media player will play MIDI files directly from your hard disk using the CVP as an output device. To do this you need to go into Control Panel on your PC and set the sound output to external MIDI device. (If you are not sure how to do this, send me a message and I will give you further details).
If you want more control over the voicings of your MIDI file, you need to use a sequencer on your PC. There is a choice of sequencers available in a range of prices and everyone has their favourite. I use Yamaha XG Works - which I am happy with. Once you have a sequencer up and running, you use the CVP as both an output and input device. You basically record each track of a song by playing it on the CVP one track at a time and then you can play the whole thing back.

I use my PC all the time to control the CVP using a sequencer - One really useful tip is to get a wireless mouse. I find this ideal as you can just leave it on the piano stool whilst you are playing and there is no need to scramble round and get tangled up when you want to change a setting on the sequencer or stop it playing etc.

Hopefully this has answered your question. The top models in the new range of 'even' numbered CVP's will have USB support - this should allow you to control the computer with the CVP. If you set up your PC/CVP as I have described, I think this works just as well.

Enjoy your 207 !!

I will be very grateful if you guys can tell me from wich web site have you downloaded the styles for your CVP and how did you manage to make them working.

You see, for MIDI files I have no problems but for the files with extension .sty (the style ones) till now I am not able to use them.

I have downloaded 118 different styles from the psr tutorial web. I put them on a floppy and opened the USEWR section on my CVP 209 well, nothing appears on the clavinova screen!

Have I downloaded any non compatible files or what?

Can you be so kind to give me a reply? Already I have posted a similar letter but so far I hven't received any reply at all!

To play the styles from the disk...

Press the D (Style) button

Press the NEXT button (top right of the screen) to scroll to the FLOPPY PAGE

From there you can select and play the styles on the floppy or copy and paste them to the user section.

Thanks Phil for your suggestion but what you say I have already done.

The problem is that when finally I reach the floppy section on my CVP nothing at all appear!!!

It's quite a frustrating situation knowing that while other CVP users seem to easily download style files from the web and then play them on their CVP still I am not able in doing so.

Well, let me ask one thing first: is the .sty the correct extension for the CVP style files?

You see, actually the above mentioned file extension (.sty) belongs to style files ready for yamaha psr but somebody stated that these psr style files are good for the CVP as well?

The download page is the following:

http://psrtutorial.com/Files/F_Yama.../f_factory.html

Who knows, maybe I am searching inthe wrong web site...so, if it is the case why someone don't suggest me one good address in order to download nice style files for my CVP?

Hoping for an immediate answer

yours

RAVI

If the CVP doesn't list the files on your floppy, that means it can't read it.

I suggest you format the floppy on the CVP. Then take the floppy to the computer, copy your files onto it, and put it back in the CVP.

It should be able to read them now.
