Does anyone know exactly what is XG-Lite? I can't seem to find a specification online.

It seems like all of the less-expensive Yamaha keyboards are branded with the XG logo along with the word "lite" in fine print.

Hi Dan

XG is a set of voices on it's own chip set.

XG-Lite still has the XG voices BUT NOT on it's own chip. Instead the XG voices are included within the panel voices's chip. These are stored as "wave tables" and they should sound the same.

The "higher" end keyboards have a chip for XG and a chip for the panel voices.

Hope this helps.

Dan,

XG Lite is a subset of XG. It is not bound to any particular hardware or software implementation. To be XG Lite compliant, an instrument needs to support all of the features, functions, voices, and effects that are specified as mandatory for XG Lite and may support additional features and functions that are specified as optional

The details can be found in the XG Specification - (which I can't attach to this post due to the file size limitation of 50 KB)

Let me know how I can get it to you Dan. The zipped file size is 1250 KB
