309GP vs upright

Hi all,
I aslked this once before but didn't get of a response, so I thought I would try this again, now that the 300's have been out a bit longer.

Does anyone have first hand experience to know if the design of the grand-piano cabinetry actually gives a better sound than the uprights? That is to say, is the difference between the 309 and 309GP more than cosmetic?
