View Full Version : Music Finder Listing For CVP307

For those interested, the links below show the original factory preset Music Finder listing for the CVP307. There are over 1800 songs.

The listing is in both "MusicFinderView" format and simple text format. The text format can be opened with Windows Notepad or any word processor. IF the text wraps, just reduce the size of the font to "8".

I am checking with my dealer to get the "corrected" titles. For instance "Smokey Water" should be "Smoke on the Water". I'll let you guess which song "This Man's Ramblin'" refers to. Actually, the entire listing is a fun challenge to see if you can figure out the real titles.

Opening the MusicFinderView file generates an error, but it will still display.

RIGHT CLICK and "Save Target" to your computer before opening.

Thanks for the nice work. The listing gives a direct access to all the songs in the musicfinder. I saved it to my harddisk.

Nice work, Steve.

If I understand correctly, your list data came from a Yamaha Corporation 307 or a Yamaha Corporation of America one without the USA dealer-installable replecement music-finder data base.

Is there any way for you to create similar lists of the Yamaha Corp. of America USA version?

This Music Finder list came from my CVP307 M that was shipped from "Yamaha Corporation of America" in southern California to my dealer here in the SF Bay Area. I picked up the box, unopened, and took it home.

I have a call into my dealer to get the "USA Version" install disk.
I'll post that listing when I get it.

Best,

Hi

For those of you who don't want to work out all of the titles, here is the corrected UK MFD for the 307.

I all so have the files for the other 3xx cvps.

Hey MIDI Magic:

Your list is no doubt great, but please tell me what to use to read .mfd files or provide a text list.

Thanks.

Cheers.

John

To look at the MFD files, you need to use MusicFinderView which you can get here:

http://www.svpworld.com/util_mfdview.htm

But, if you don't need to look at the file, it can be loaded directly to the CVP 307 (and other 300's?) via USB. Go to the utility, system reset, music finder, tab over to your USB device, point to the new file and hit "replace" Music Finder file.

You might want to copy and save your original Music Finder fill, just in case. I think it comes back anyway, with a factory reset.

Thanks, Midi Magic!
I loaded your MFD file into my CVP307 and it works great!
I now have 2000 files, instead of 1800 or so. I see they are all the same songs from the YOA setup, plus about 150 extra European songs.

Most importantly, I now have ALL the correct names, like "I Shot the Sheriff" instead of "Shooting the Sheriff" in my original factory-installed Music Finder.

Hi Willjohn

Here is a text file of the 307 MFD straight from the MusicFinderVeiw program.

Thanks, MidiMagic, for the text list and thanks Steve for stearing me to the MFD program (and what appears to be an interesting site).

Steve, did you get the MF database from your dealer and that is how you know the British DB is YCA+ or are you just going by the numbers?

I'm going to replace my hurricane-totaled Clavinova and am now doing the groundwork.

I believe that, if I were to purchase a Yamaha 307 instead of a Yamaha Corp. of America one, (1) I wouldn't get the dealer installed USA Music Finder database, and (2) I wouldn't get YCA support and warranty. (I don't know what sort of warranty I would get.)

So, it appears #1 is not a problem, but I'd still have to contend with #2.

How about the preset songs, do they also differ and, if so, what can be done about that?

Any Comments and guidance would be appreciated.

John

As good timing would have it, my CVP 307 has just received the USAv3 upgrade.

The upgrade includes:

-Color quadrant screen
-New User Voices
-Larger Music Finder File with Real song names
-Hal Leonard Music Method Sampler

Here is the before and after pics of the screen:

http://home.pacbell.net/sablair/displayf.jpg
http://home.pacbell.net/sablair/displayusa.jpg

The Music Finder File contains a whopping 2314 songs

http://home.pacbell.net/sablair/MF307usa.txt
http://home.pacbell.net/sablair/307us.mfd

There are 46 new User Voices, including basses, guitars, organs, synths, and vintage. My favorite is the Melotron Flute (from the beginning of Strawberry Fields).

The HL sampler consists of 50 user songs to play along with, including some scale drills.

Hi Carlitin

"MidiMagic : Can you tell me the diferens betwin MusicFinder of the 207 and the 307 ??. Can I get the songs and put in my CVP-207 ???"

Well Yes and No. You see the MFD is just a list of look ups. There is a style and a style number. See below:

Cool8Beat;000
8BeatModern;002
OrganBallad;004
Unplugged1;006
8BeatAdria;008
HeartBeat;010
60sGuitarPop;012

1. Now the "Song titles in the MFD point to these style numbers, so if your CVP has these style numbers in it then it will select it and work ok. BUT as the new CVPs have styles which use "Mega Voices" and hence the new styles have new numbers. So for us cvp209 owners, who don't have Mega Voices it will not see the new styles numbers.

2. You can of course, load in the new styles from the 3xx BUT most of what we havn't got already, have Mega Voices and so, will sound wrong.

3. One more thing, some of the new styles are very large, >75K too large in fact for the 209 to load in.

So, for the songs that use a style that we already have, then Yes, for the rest.........alas no.

Having BACKED UP your own MFD first, just load in a 3xx MFD and try it.

Now having said ALL that, there is a collection of very good programs by Michael P. Bedesem at:

www.svpworld.com/psr_software.htm

one of them is called "MidiPlayer" this will allow conversions between "normal" and "mega" voices in both midi files and styles. After all, styles are just MIDI files.

While you are there don't forget to download the MusicFinder View program. A MUST have.

Have fun.

Hi sablair,
where did you get your CVP307 update from? I didnīt find any on yamahas websites.
Thanks for help.;)

Hi, Andreas,
Of course you couldn't find the CVP307 USAv3 upgrade on Yamaha websites. It's a closely guarded "secret" being touted by Yamaha dealers in US to justify their higher prices. But if you read the other related threads about the USA Edition, you'll find out that the so-called "secret" upgrade is just a hype. CVP buyers in US get their upgraded USAv3 software installed by US dealers IF they bought their CVPs from the Yamaha authorized dealers in US. But the so-called upgrade is nothing more than 4 files you can live without:

1. a bitmap file for a more vibrant color quadrant,
2. a file containing 46 new user voices,
3. a USA version Music Finder file (with 2314 real song names), and
4. a Hal Leonard Method Sampler file with 50 demo songs.

Hope this helps...

Hi midi magic,
thanks for your fine work with the musicfinder file and the original titles. It worked out fine with my CVP-307 and I have now 2000 titles which are easy to find. One can work with it really fine.
Have a happy New Year!:)

Hi Andreas-

Hi sablair,
thanks again. I loaded it down and it does well. I tried out the "Whiter shade of pale" setting, which works nice. In the 4th OTS they programmed it with the blues-guitar as lead voice and that sounds very nice, as back in the 60s....;)

Hi MidiMagic & Sablair --

Can you please provide the MusicFinder Updates for the CVP300 series? I have been trying to get this from Yamaha Canada but have not yet received it.

Many Thanks!

Does anybody know if there is a Music Finder update for the CVP-303? I have found updates for the cvp-307 listed, but none for the cvp-303. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

The USA version has the following number of songs in the MusicFinder File:

CVP #of songs
----- ------------
301 1183

303 1642

305 2168

307 2314

A link to the 307 listing is earlier in this thread.
If you need one of the others, send me a personal message via this forum.

Hi,
I would be interested in getting a Finder list with the correct song names for my 301. I tried importing the Sablair's 307 list, but the 301 can store only 1200 songs. I then went with the Music Finder file viewer to create a shoter list but ran into problems:

the program cannot convert a list for the 300 series and I would have lost all the titles with an unknown style for the 200 series I tried converting the list into. Does anyone know how I can convert a list including all styles? I know that the program can change the unkown styles to a default style, but it is not what I am looking for.

So, lets see if I understand all this.

I can download the CVP307 MDF file onto a thumb drive and upload it onto my CVP305 via USB overwriting the factory presets to end up with the USA and GB MusicFinder files

If you upload the US file, that's all you'll have, besides the factory preset. If you already have the UK file, it should stay in place. Best I can tell, you go to the "Utility" option to choose which MusicFinder file you want to use.

All should be there as "files" with the appropriate names. Just select US, UK, or whatever customized files you have in there to use as YOUR MUSICFINDER.:p

My new CVP303 arrived at my dealer Friday morning, 21 January.
It already had v1.54 of the system software, but still had the "English as a second language" version of the MFD.

I have updated to the corrected US version; thanks to this thread, and especially Steve (sablair) for providing easy instructions.

Glad to help out, PEPyle. Too bad you had to do this all yourself.
Here's some other stuff you should have: ;)

Download, unzip and upload this folder to the "User" section of the Songs:

Download, unzip and upload this folder to the "User" section of the Voices :

Thanks again.

The XtraSongs reportedly are accompaniments for the book, "Method Sampler, Books 1-5" published by Hal Leonard (HL90001803), according to an old thread:
http://www.cvpug.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=291
I can't find this book listed as available for sale, but I probably wouldn't buy it anyway.

I might have to recopy the XtraVoices into the Clavinova.
My wife says the sub-folders are empty, and that I may have to copy them folder-by-folder.
Of course I'll have to wait till she "falls" off the bench, and that could take a while: 15 hours yesterday, 10 hours today (so far).

:)

Just got my CVP-307 today!! Very, very excited.
I've read this thread with much interest since I do not have the USAv3 installed.

I have downloaded the music finder files (.mfd and .txt), put them on a pen drive which I connected to the 307, but I couldn't figure out where they are placed.

I hate being a n00b, but someone's gotta do it...

Help!! ;)

and thanks.

Hi Iyork-
If you read carefully at the beginning of this thread, I noted what you need to do. Here you go again :

"it can be loaded directly to the CVP 307 (and other 300's?) via USB. Go to the utility, system reset, music finder, tab over to your USB device, point to the new file and hit "replace" Music Finder file.
