View Full Version : Showing score of downloaded midi's?

I've downloaded several midi's from Yamaha's site and everything is fine, all notes show in the LCD. I just downloaded a few from someone's personal site that I'm very interested in playing the melodies. The problem is, no notes show up, just the dash in any particular measure where the melody could be played. I assume that I somehow could enable the notes to show. Maybe I'm wrong.
I would appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks!!!
Todd

You didn't say which instrument you have, but on my CVP 307, button #8 at the bottom of the display will select "setup" when a midi file is playing. This lets you choose which tracks to display in the notation window.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. I have a 204. After seeing your post, I went into song setup and found the melody on voice #8. Seemed strange for it to be there, but it was and all the notes are in the display. Now I have to figure out how to put the guide lamps on #8. I'm sure it's in there somewhere. :)

Steve:
When I select "setup" at the bottom of the "score" display, I see 5 items: "Left Ch", "Right Ch", "Key Signature", "Quantize", and "Note Name". None of these appear to be an avenue to "choose which tracks to display".
Am I on the right screen and/or do I need to be playing a special type of MIDI file?
A separate question:
Is the score generated within the Clavinova from special data embedded in special MIDI files or is it generated from General MIDI data?
John
P.S. I'm also interested in Todd's concern about assigning guide lights.

Hi John-
I'll answer your 3 questions.
1) You hit the correct buttons. Left channel and right channel are what you use to chose which track to display in the score
2) The score is generated from the same midi notes that tell the CVP what to play. Nothing magical or special.
3)For the Guide Lights, hit "Direct" and "Guide" then set the 2 channels again, just like for the score.

FANTASTIC!!!
Thanks Steve. Both Score and lamps work fine. I wasn't clicking "OK" for score setup and you don't have to for the lamp setup.
Next questions:
1. What generates the chord symbols and why do they appear on some songs and not others even when chords are "on"?
2. Is there any way to actually transpose a song rather than just changing the pitch (which probably drives people with perfect pitch mad)?

Hi
I am not at my cvp right now but if I remember correctly you push the "Key Signature" button select what key you what and the score changes.

I tried it, MIDI Magic, but it only changed the key signature, not the notes.
Any other suggestions from anybody would be appreciated.

Hi
Ok try this:
Main menu screen - Mixing Console - tab along to "Tune"
then at the bottom of the page you will see Transpose
Select "Song" and transpose up / down to the key you want.
Back to Score and there you are.

FANTASTIC FANTASTIC
What can't this instrument do? It's amazing.
Not only did it transpose the notes but the chord symbols also.
Now to my second question: Where do the chord symbols come from and why do some songs have them while others don't?
Many thanks, MIDI Magic.
