I was poking around answers.google.com (good fun, by the way), and stumbled across this question/answer that has many good links, so I thougth I would share it:

http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=350596

The article on about.com about midi sites being shut down was interesting.

Anyway - not too much that hasn't already been shared on cvpug(midifarm, musicrobot, etc.) but plenty of solid links in a single place.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a database that rated free midi files by how good they sound on a CVP?

Ross,

This link page that you gave us is like the encyclopedia of MIDI links. I have bookmarked this an going through them.

I support your idea to make database of really good sounding MIDI files that sound wonderful on the CVP. It will save all of us so much time.

Even though there are over 60,000 midi files, searching and finding a good one is like sifting through buckets of sand to find a diamond.

The other alternative is to pay $5 and download from IDC which is always guaranteed to sound brilliant on your CVP.

Very stupid question, but once you have downloaded the file, can you not share it?
Most of the free midi is crap. Very difficult to find the good stuff. I agree that a rating system would be a fabulous time saver.

Hi

Sorry folks, it looks like he is charging you to download them now.
" "Due to recent changes in licensing requirements for my Official MIDI Home Page, it has become necessary for me to limit access to all of the MIDI sequences available on my site to "Members Only" subscribers." "

There was a time when most of them were free. It was a good job I downloaded them about 2 yrs ago.

He does say:

" "Although my sequences will continue to be "Freely Distributed" to the general public, they will not be available for download by non-subscribers directly from my web site, ........" "

So, reading the above, you could always mail me direct, and I could send you the files !!!!!
