since, as i understand it, the cvp's are basically audio-dedicated computers in a cabinet, are they not susceptible to computer viurses in downloaded midi files?
if so, what steps should be taken to prevent a cvp from getting "sick"?
are there midi files of classsical music, like mozart and beethoven, that can be played back on the clavinovas like a player piano?
and, are there midi files, of say sinatra songs, that can be downloaded and played back in karoke format with the music played without the lyrics, but with the lyrics displayed on the lcd screen?

Hi Bluemonkey,
I have never encountered or heard a MIDI virus in my 20 years of working with MIDI. It may be possible, I am not sure. You learn new things every day. In any case you could always recycle the power - do a cold boot to bring things up normal.
There are plently of GM/GS/XG reset files that will reset your MIDI settings - Volume, Pan, Patch, PitchBend, Controllers, Effects everthing. I believe the Clavinova initializes all these anyway.
Here are some good sites to start your personal MIDI collection.

bluemonkey - Tapas has already pointed you at some great midi index/search sites. I was poking through some of the same sites just last night, and came across a fun one (for lovers of ragtime & other syncopation). Your mention of "player piano" made me think about sharing it.
Want to turn your CVP into an old-time roll player piano? Check this out: http://www.trachtman.org/rollscans/ - click on MIDI_files after you read about this cool project. I bet most of us didn't buy a CVP because it can play old rolls!
Trachtman also has an amazing collection of Ragtime tunes at http://www.trachtman.org/ragtime/ - don't miss the tunes by contemporary syncopators at the bottom!

Thanks Bluemonkey!
Anybody can get all the information. It is all out there and most of it is free. Over the last 15 years I have been collecting all the brochures from these audio/video/midi companies that is carefully alphabetized and stored in 4 tall steel cabinets. That’s 4x4x2 = 32 linear feet of the most current product guides from companies A through Z.
All you have to do is attend these trade shows and you will become an expert.
Knowledge is power!
