I currently own a CVP209 which is an absolutely wonderful instrument. I like the new CVP309GP which is shaped like a grand piano. Would it really be worth the update. I know there are differences in the instruments, but if anyone out there that has went from a 209 to a 309 could shine some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. I just want to make sure that I am making the proper decision. Pros and cons would help. Please, any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi

Here's my opinion

NO its to soon to upgrade!

except if you got a $1000 hobby-buget a month, you should already have a 309gp at home

Kind regards

I wouldn't upgrade unless there is a feature on the 307 or 309 that you absolutely can't live without. The 209 is a great instrument!

Honestly, the new features on the 307, like internet connection, are a joke. It only goes to the Yamaha site and it costs to download stuff. I know you can get one free, but I don't really want to give them my credit card information for one free song. Enjoy the 209 and wait for more new features to come. I keep hoping they will make a remote for the Clavinova.

Hey :) :) :)

I happy I'm not the only one who thinks IDC sucks
An online midifilestore does not belong in a musical instrument.
Its like one step to far...Why not have a creditcard slot built in to the next cvp model???

Kind regards

I have also been underwhelmed by IDC. I haven't found it worth the $25 I spent on a USB network adapter. Perhaps when I am bored with the tens of thousands of free midi files available, I'll be more interested in the midi store.

However, I believe the technology has promise - not for selling midi files (marketing gone too far), but for other things - like online collaboration, instructional content, etc.

IMO, Yamaha would be far ahead to open IDC up so other content providers could provide offerings. I think the increased appeal of IDC would help them make more money selling more new instruments than peddling midi files for $5US ever will. Wouldn't it be cool to have a cvpug IDC page we could connect to and upload/download original midi compositions, styles, etc?

But since I doubt Yamaha will make this move, I'm wondering how hard it would be to figure IDC out without waiting for a spec. Certainly, it's just html. Maybe it's time to load up a packet sniffer and have a look see. Would also require convincing the instrument to go to a different URL. I'm almost certain the capability is there, since you can set you homepage on the CVP. If it wasn't possible to go somewhere besides Yamaha's IDC homepage, why would that functionality be there?

Anyone else interested in looking into this with me?

I upgraded from the 209 to the 309 shortly before Xmas. I think it was worth every penny of the £1500 the upgrade cost me. In my opinion the number one improvement is the keyboard, no2. is the megavoice styles & no. the USB connectivity and Smartmedia. I play the CVP for a couple of hours virtually every night so the upgrade cost spread over the 2 years I had the 209 was not much more than £1 per hour. I think this is great value for money for a hobby that I enjoy so much.
