Adapter to convert xD to Smart Media

For those who refuse to "downgrade" to SmartMedia format, an option would be to use a "Smart Media Card Reader Adapter" for your existing media card formats.

I found one adapter for converting an xD-picture card which you may use with the SmartMedia slot on the CVP-300 series (I haven't tried it out yet myself). See http://www.coolerexpress.com/xdtosmad.html

It beats spending another $20 for a SM card that you'll never use for anything else.

This is an excellent workaround. Thanks for posting all the details. I have a spare 128MB Fuji xD picture card. I can buy this simple SmartMedia adapter for $4.95 and be done with it.

I am wondering if the CVP will recognize the extra storage space if I insert a 256MB xD card in this adapter? Perhaps the OS is designed to read the first 128MB and ignore the rest.

Sorry that I'd been inactive at this forum for quite some time now, and didn't get a chance to provide any update on the xD adapter...

Well, I'm sorry to report that the xD adapter doesn't work on the SM slot on the CVP (it DOES work on other USB card reader though). :mad:

The reason it doesn't work on the CVP is because the long dimension of the SmartMedia interface (the thinner part which is inserted into the SM slot) is about 1/8 inch too short!! It cannot be inserted any further because the SM slot on the CVP is 1/8 inch too deep and the slot does not accommodate the thicker part of the xD adapter (i.e. the part that an xD card is inserted into). In other words, when you insert the adapter into the SM slot on the CVP, the thicker part of the xD adapter will be up against the edge of the slot opening before it can be fully inserted into the slot.

Sorry if this has caused any inconvenience for anyone. (But I'd blame the @#$%&* design of the SM slot on the CVP!!) :rolleyes:
