Hi Gang!
About 30 new hit tunes were added to IDC end of Dec, up thru now. Watch every month for at least 20 new tunes will be added. Check the recent additions section of your IDC.

These tunes will be available as downloads on YMS.com soon.

Thanks for your support. Give me your feedback too. What kind of songs would you like to see programmed???

THANKS!

If any of you are coming to NAMM - swing by the Yamaha booth, you just might find out my true identity.

Cheers,
COUNT

Hi CountJS,

We are happy to see you back on the forum again! Don't leave us dangling. We were getting worried about you.

Now I see you have been busy with IDC. I wish I could be at the NAMM show and see all the new toys in the Yamaha display areas. It is too expensive to purchase a guest pass.

I think Yamaha should offer a free guest pass to all CVP owners.

Good luck with your show. This is the big one!!!

Regards,

Tapas

Count,

I would like to hear about the new Korg OASYS workstation. This is going to be officially announced tomorrow at 10am. I guess, after tomorrow you would have no problems filling us in with all the details.

Yamaha deserves credit for the modelling engine that went in defining the architecture of the OASYS. The Yamaha VL-1 was the first physical modelling synth that paved the way for the Z1/Prophecy/MOSS boards.

Dear Count,
please give us a report of the NAMM show and all the news in the Yamaha booth (and sure some specs of the new oasys), when you´re back home.
Thanks in advance

Just checked out some of the new IDC songs and they sound great. My favorite would have to be Superfreak.

As for suggestions for types of new songs, I suggest more Blues, (guitar, piano, and organ based), and organ-based jazz, (i.e. Jimmy Smith, Joey D, ) Lastly, some songs highlighting the new mega voices would be cool.

Keep up the good work!

Is it possible to purchase or download IDC songs if one has an older model 200 series Clavinova? Is there access directly from the Web via a computer? The MegaVoices can be removed from Midi files with a program like MidiPlayer (archived on
www.svpworld.com).

Hi!

Welcome back Count, we were really worried.

Would you mind checking out this thread; http://www.cvpug.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=862

We are quite perplexed about what to do about a firmware upgrade, and the information from Yamaha has been basically non-existant. It seems the upgrade has something to do with IDC, so maybe you can shed light on it?? Particularly how to install it when you don't have a SmartMedia card? And since most people seem to have 1.04, why weren't we told as well about at least 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.51, 1.52, and 1.53? I would expect that as a result of the registration.

BTW, I still don't have IDC although I am now planning to set it up, and it is very difficult to search on YMS as there is no category choice, but I would like to see more good classical music. Not everyone using these instruments play exclusively chart hits, some of us are classically trained and use the CVP for serious classical music. Browsing through YMS arbitrarily I didn't see any classical arrangements (only solo piano stuff). And while I'm at YMS, what is the MRM format? On most files when you click on the audio preview that's the file format you get. Media Player 10 does not recognise it, and the Help or FAQ on the site says nothing about it.

Hi All,
this firmware upgrade is not the 'official' V2, thus no major announcement was made. If a consumer experienced the technical bugs and called customer support, they were given the link. Most dealers are aware of the upgrade - if they perform the update, is the big question.

Please watch for the major V2 update announcement coming soon. It was displayed at NAMM. Meanwhile, as the topic of this thread - please let me know if there are any songs missing from IDC that you would like to see...

thanks for the support,
JS

Hi CountJS

While we wait for the announcement of V2...

Since it was displayed at NAMM, could you give us an overview of what someone would have seen ?

Thanks.

Paul.

I appreciate the opportunity to provide input for songs I would like to see on the IDC...
1. All I Know, words & music by Jimmy Webb, recorded by Art Garfunkel
2. Ashokan Farewell, by Jay Ungar, from The Civil War miniseries
3. Into The West, words and music by Howard Shore, Fran Walsh and Annie Lennox, from the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
4. I'll Know, by Frank Loesser, from Guys and Dolls
5. I've Never Been in Love Before, by Frank Loesser, from Guys and Dolls
6. People Will Say We're in Love, music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, from Oklahoma

Hi!

How about The Seasons by Vivaldi (demonstrating the nice violin sounds) and the Finale from Beethovens 9th (can you actually make the currently limited choir voices sound at least somewhat decent?)

Hi
Thanks for the suggestions:

Vivaldi - La Primavera (Four Seasons 1st mov.) is available on IDC.
Beethoven's entire Symphony No.9 is available as well. All voices will be XG - you can then edit as you desire with panel voices.

elliottpd - great suggestions regarding the musicals. I will look into sales stats and see if they would appeal to a wide audience.

thanks,

Sorry Count, I'll flame you again as I'm yet again pissed off by Yamahas Internet presence.

You keep saying that YMS always contains the same things as IDC. I DID indeed find Primavera in the end here, but it is still an incredible hassle, as there are no useful categories to search under. AND again there was no way to listen to it first - I was still forced to pay for it totally unseen. Most FREE MIDI sites have a working option for listening to the file first. Now I have to pay for it AND doing so without knowing what I get?

I then tried Beethovens 9, but am totally unable to find it. Again, the category choices are horrendous. You say it is XG, so eventhough I would normally not know that; just filtering out the XG categories where do YOU say I should look:
Clavisoft - Disk Orchestra Collection - XG
Clavisoft - Disk Orchestra Collection - XG Download
Clavisoft - You Are the Artist - XG
Pianosoft Plus - XG
Pianosoft Plus - XG Download
Song Dog XG MIDI Files
XG for Keyboard
XG for Piano
XG Lite
XG MIDI Files
XG Song Disks

Some other categories that potentially look applicable, as I don't know what they are:
StartLIGHTS Series
Tune1000
Tune1000 Downloads
Tune1000 Song Disks
Virtuoso Performance
You Are The Star

I've spent an hour on it now, and believe it or not I have better things to do.

The download of Primavera didn't work either; the download totally hung, and now when I try to to download it again, it says
"You have already downloaded this item. You must repurchase it"....!!!!

This is totally contrary to what everyone else does! If the download fails, or you loose the file, everyone gives you an option to download it again (usually at least through a link sent on email)

So I'm back to my upset feelings I had months ago. YMS sucks, and I refuse to buy anything more unseen. There is no useful information on the WWW about EXACTLY what IDC looks like, and you're not saying much more than that it is excellent, although you can't even tell us what v2 brings, yet loads of people have seen it at NAMM.

I would fly up into a tree, naked, and sit there and chirp happily for everyone to see, if you could answer this about IDC:
1) Can I search by Title, Composer, AND musical category?
2) Can I listen to a sample before buying?
3) What horrible copy protection have you implemented; ie
3a) Will I be able to take backups of the files I've bought?
3b) If I loose them can I download them again?

Hi Danny,
if you´re looking for free midifiles you can try two sites:
one for classical f.i. Beethovens 9th
http://www.classicalarchives.com/midi/
this site has the greatest archive of free midifiles for any classical piece of music. You will find numerous variations for favourite classicals. Registering is free!
And for all other songs go to this searchengine:
http://www.musicrobot.com/
you will find numerous variations for each tune you´re looking for.
After downloading it, you can change anything on your cvp as you like it. I hope this will be more satisying for you than the frustrating IDC...;)

Danny
Sorry - I have nothing to do with YMS... but, I will pass on your information. As it stands, many songs are available on both platforms. However, I was referring to IDC, not YMS.

V1 already has the following. Please let me know which tree you plan to climb, and I will be there. Here goes:

1) Can I search by Title, Composer, AND musical category?
YES

2) Can I listen to a sample before buying?
YES

3) What horrible copy protection have you implemented
NO copy protection - just watermark, so I can find the files and styles posted on other websites and take them down. (Like some of the links posted here). It is only fair to copy protect something we own, right? If you lose or corrupt your data when buying from YMS, they will gladly send you a replacement copy as long as you send back the original. If you knew how much money one disk costs to produce, you would understand.

3a) Will I be able to take backups of the files I've bought?
YES as many as you like.
3b) If I loose them can I download them again?
and YES - and this is all in V1...

Hope that helps. The international language version is running a little behind, but it will be there soon.

Cheers,
JS

Hi!

I know you don't work on YMS, I just feel hesitant that a supplier who can't make their first Internet product usable and with good content, would suddenly be able to create the perfect product, yet keep the first running in the same old state. It's all one company isn't it? It's the same platform and goals isn't it?

Anyway, you DID reply to my questions, so attached is the promised picture of me naked up a tree, chirping! :D

(PS sorry for the delay in replying, but it took some doing in arranging the photo!)

Count!

You mentioned that some pianosoft music was available via IDC.

I'm quite interested in some of the music that is normally delivered on floppy - for example some of the Buechner or Mike Garson performances.

So, I guess my question is, how can I locate these in IDC?

I'm a bit confused by the "by" citation. Does this imply:
- performed by
- in the style of
- originally written by

Danny -
nice pic - thank you...

watch out, V2 is right around the corner....

Regarding PianoSoft - right now, the titles are in the system, but they are difficult to locate since the search system does not allow for to search by file type... it's a luck thing. The title will look like this 'XXXXX - PianoSoft'... Soon, it will all be easier. Buechner or Mike Garson files are not in the system of yet... But, when they are, you can find Garson under artist - 'Garson...'

thanks!

JS,

Still can't give us a glimpse of the 2 or 3 biggest changes in V2, can you ? It was shown to the public in January, wasn't it ?

Hopeful.

Paul.

It was shown to the industry in Jan... I can tell you that the streaming lessons is pretty cool. Right now, all of the sites are being translated, once we get done QC'ing the sites, the announcement will be on.
