I would like to see Yamaha add to the Sound Edit functions the ability to select different core voices for layering. As it stands, "all" you can do is edit the sounds that exist and not create any new layers. Some of us are not so interested in creating new sounds, but rather in creating different layered combinations.

For example, on the Technics Digital Ensembles, you can "create" voices/sounds with up to four layers. As those instruments also offered (they are no longer manufacturing instruments) two independent sounds/voices for the right hand (like our CVPs), you could conceiveably have as many as 8 different voices playing at once.

Dear Jim,
you´re right, the layering possibilities of the cvp-series aren´t that much. I also miss f.i. at least two parts for your left hand.
On the other hand I have found that the voices of the cvp played together with the styles are so expressive that two layers in the right hand are in most cases enough. I store all my layers as new voices in the registration bank. So most of the time I use these registration banks as my voice library. F.i. the epiano voices: I only use my own layers with two epianos together. These layers sound more expressive than one epiano-voice alone.

Hi Jim,
sometime ago you asked for more layers on the cvp. Listen to the midifile I posted in the creations forum. My song was composed with two layers for part right1, two layers for part right2 and two layers for part left by using an QY70 midisequenzer. It`s a bit of midiediting work, but it works as you can hear...

Hey Andreas,

I replied (sort of) on one of your other posts. By the way, I like the tune and it was cool to hear it on my own CVP307 as a midi file instead of as an mp3.

Hi Jim,
I finally found out, that with the help of an external sequenzer you can build up to eight layers. Four with right part 1+2, two with the left part and two more with two voices of the stylesection (if you play with a style). Doing this I layered track 4 of the style section (a synth voice in my case) with another synthvoice on songtrack 7 and track 5 of the stylesection with songtrack 8. So these stylevoices have got more depth, it really sounds great!
The only problem is to record this, because each time, you want to record you have to open a new song and then all your voicesettings are gone and you have to register them once again.
Therefor I wrote to Yamaha on their globalsite about my experiments and proposed to integrate more layer possibilities into the next generation of the cvp-series.
