For those with Yamaha pianos with iAFC, how do you have your settings configured? Which do you like best: Dynamic Damper, Natural Soundboard, or Spacial Ensemble? What is your iAFC depth setting?

I'm still not sure what the difference is between Natural Soundboard and Spacial Ensemble.

After iAFC calibration, the depth setting was 106, which is the factory default. I found this setting to be too loud and unnatural. I also found that with this setting I heard a noticable hiss or audio noise from the rear speakers when the room was quiet and not playing the piano. I lowered my iAFC to 80 and that setting sounds much better.

Thanks for your comments.

On my CVP 307, I have it set to Natural Soundboard and, after calibration, my depth is also set at 106. Hmmmm.....I wonder what "calibration" is actually doing if everyone is getting the same setting! Anyway, I am NOT getting any hissing at that setting.

One side note, I am now realizing that the Damper effect is not as good on this instrument as it was on the Technics Digital Pianos I used to play (some as early as 10 -12 years ago). On those, you could actually "pump" the pedal and hear the difference in the sound of the other strings beginning to vibrate. I just checked the CVP with the Damper setting in iAFC and realized that the only time it works is if the pedal is depressed prior to playing notes. It doesn't have to work that way on an acoustic piano. Maybe this is a software upgrade Yamaha could make on future releases.

All that said, I still love this thing!

I would submit the problem to Yamaha otherwise they might not be aware of the problem and never fix this.

I discovered something very interesting today. Just for grins, I set iAFC with automatic default settings, and the hiss immediately went away! Yet, if I look at the individual iAFC settings they're still at a depth of 106 with spacial ensemble medium.

So there was something about using iAFC auto calibration that left my piano with a small hiss from the rear speakers.

Later today I spoke with Yamaha tech support today. According to the tech, the hiss I experienced is perfectly normal.

I also asked him why setting iAFC to default elliminated the hiss. He didn't have an answer for this, other than maybe auto calibration somehow affect internal iAFC gain.

Anyway, I'm just happy I don't hear it anymore.
