ok, the first time I missed to record the three additional layered tracks. So here comes the real file and you can see, how the six voices play together. Itīs all recorded in one take, no overdubs no editing afterwards...

Your posts regarding the "layered" sounds using midi, but all in one take make me wonder if one could attach a single midi cable to both the in and out ports (making a loop) in order to control both a "local" channel and a midi out channel for each of the keyboard parts (Right 1, Right 2, Left). Has anybody every tried anything like that? I wouldn't think it would hurt the instrument electronically, but I really don't know or remember.

And, if it would be that "simple", it sure would seem like Yamaha could make editing layers an option on new CVPs. Actually, just more buttons on the control panel for additional sounds (Right 3, Right 4, etc.) would be cool. Ok, I'm dreaming, but my wife once told me that dreams come true......fantasies don't!

Hi Jim,
your idea making a midi loop is pretty cool. But I donīt dare to do it, because I donīt know whether it could harm something. But I think it may work, because with my sequenzer I am only using the echoback thru function, so that the mididata arenīt changed in any way.
If you do it, you have to set a new midisetting with the transmit-channels for the panelvoices (normally 1-3) changed to channels 4-6 of the songchannels, so that you can record the whole thing (channels 1-3 for the panelvoices, channels 4-6 for the layered voices) and you put PC signals off for channel 4-6. Thatīs how I did it.
I am quite happy with this setting, because the two layers for the left. f.i. with synthpads gives much more sound for the background and four layers for the right part, f.i. with synthvoices gives more expressiveness, because the sounds change with your touch sense. If you play soft some layer voices will sound softer, if you touch harder, they come out sharper, so itīs really a very flexible sound-setting for synthvoices.
When you have tried the loop, please let me know...

You want ME to try it!!! I'm afraid of the same thing!!! :) Has anyone out there ever tried looping a MIDI cable from out to in? If so, what happened? For some reason, I'm thinking that I did that 10 years ago on something, but I just can't remember for sure. I'm not sure that I want to try it on a multi-thousand dollar piece of equipment!

Midi in does not go back out (that's what Thru is for). So there's no problem with feedback. Also, you need not worry about the electrical since the ports are all opto-isolated. Go for it! You gotta figure the designers of MIDI knew that any head-banger would do it just for a head rush.

Hi Dan,
thanks for clearing up our question. So my QYsequenzer makes sense, because it has the thru-function.
